Moving in or outService

Moving out

If you are moving out of business premises where you have an electricity supply contract with Business Gas Lite, then one of the following scenarios will apply:
  1. You are selling a business premise to a new owner.
  2. You are leaving a rented premise
    • A new tenant is moving in the same or the next day.
    • The property is being left vacant for one or more days.
The happy path is for you to settle your account on the day you leave the premise by taking the following simple actions:
  1. Email Business Gas Lite with a meter reading plus contact details for the new owner OR the landlord and new tenant.
  2. Book a call back from Business Gas Lite to settle your account.
  3. On the call from Business Gas Lite make the final payment by card or agree for a final Direct Debit payment.
Deviating from the happy path will trigger an investigation which aims to verify that no dishonest activity is taking place. This process can be onerous and it is something customers and Business Gas Lite should work together to avoid. In most cases the investigation finds that the root cause is a breakdown in communication. However, you should note that Business Gas Lite has a zero tolerance policy towards meter tampering, tenancy fraud, cyber crime, etc.

Moving in

If you are moving in to a business premise which is currently supplied electricity by Business Gas Lite, then one of the following scenarios will apply:
  1. You are buying the business premise.
  2. You are renting from a landlord
    • You moved in on the same day or the day after the previous tenant moved out.
    • The property has been vacant for one or more days.
In either case, a deemed rate will apply and you should work with Business Gas Lite to:
  1. Agree an ongoing contract with us, OR
  2. Switch to another electricity supplier.
If the previous owner or tenant has followed the happy path outlined above then whichever of the two options you prefer should go ahead painlessly. However, this can be frustrating, if the previous tenant or owner has not followed the happy path and an investigation has been triggered.

Landlords

Landlords will only need to be involved in the moving in and moving out process in cases where:
  1. The property is being left vacant for one or more days.
  2. The tenants have triggered an investigation by Business Gas Lite’s fraud team.
